11/24/08

What? We learned today about authentic activities and constructivism. We picked a topic that was affecting the world today and came up with a basic lesson plan for it. We also learned about the 5 E's, and Bruner's 4 stages.
So What? I found it very interesting to learn more about authentic activities, discovery learning, and community of learners, and the positives and negatives of each. How and why you should apply it into the classroom.
Now What? I know what to use, when to use and how to apply it into the classroom. How it can help and effect each student and each class. I liked coming up with a quick lesson plan for an authentic activity. Also, I found Bruner's 4 stages very interesting. I really liked the 5 E's. Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. I think those all work really well with lesson plans and if used correctly you can have a successful lesson.

Extra Credit - John Ratey

What? John Ratey states that exercise stimulates the brain and helps you do better in school, and life overall. Exercising makes you feel better about yourself. He states that if you exercise before you take a test or go to classes you will do better. I also found it interesting that when you are pregnant and you exercise your baby will develop better and do better in the future.
So What? I do agree and think that exercise makes you feel better and be able to stay more focused in your activities and learning. It keeps your brain alert.
Now What? It makes me want to exercise more. With busy schedules, sometimes I find it hard to exercise, to even go on a walk. I need to set aside time to do something, even if it is a quick walk around the block. I know it will help me in many ways.
